About Us

The idea for this site came to me at some point during my undergraduate studies. At the time I was a broke student, majoring in philosophy and business and was trying to save as much money as I could on books. Luckily I had a job which allowed me much time to spend online and search for deals, manually comparing book prices in many sites. This method of comparing let me save tons of money, I can recall a brand new intro to business book which I purchased for $0.01 + $19.99 (for shipping), and for which most of my classmates paid $130 (new) or $80 (used).

During this time I also ran into many of the existing book price comparison site , which shall remain nameless here, but I quickly learned that these sites lacked functionality. For one thing I found it odd that though they claimed to be comparing the same book sites, the lowest prices that they returned for identical books often differed, and furthermore, when I did the same searches manually I was able to get an even better price. For another thing, these sites almost always returned either dead links, or the wrong address entirely, and although these “book price comparison sites” claimed to compare 30+ sites, the reality was that so many links were damaged that more often than not the only real working link was Amazon. It is at this point that I lay the initial plans into motion that would lead to the launch of We Compare Books.

After a steep learning curve, a couple of failures, and an unfortunate break throughout most of my graduate studies I was finally able to launch the book comparison site to beat all others in late winter of 2008. Using it, all you have to do is enter a keyword. book title, author or ISBN, and we will look through the Web’s largest bookstores to help you find the best deal available.
