I have read this book about 25 times since I bought it back in Dec. 2007. It is amazing to see how deep in addiction Nikki was and how far out of that black hole he has climbed. He lived AND died to tell the tale. Nikki really could have pushed this as a "woisme" story, but having his fellow band members, relatives, friends, etc. give their insight on the Nikki or "Sikki" they were forced to deal with at that time was very brave of him. Artists have deep feelings and Nikki is a true artist. This tale of addiction does have some humorous anticdotes, but it is not romanticized by any means. "Gorgeous rock star hides in closet trippin' out on the regular" is the backbone to this story. Read it if you want the truth behind the fame curtain.

A wild ride
Being a Motley fan for many years, this book was a must buy for me. I must say it was a wild ride from start to finish. Really shed some light on the way that Nikki was living. There was not a dull moment in the book. This is a must read for any Crue fan after reading "The Dirt". You will definately know where a song from "Saints Of Los Angeles" came from!

What really happens behind the scenes!
This is my favorite biography! It's actually written from one of Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) diaries while he was going through a year of heroin addiction in 1987. The book starts on Christmas 1986 and then follow through while on Motley's 'Girls, Girls, Girls' Tour until the end of 1987.
This is a very twisted book with many angles to interpret it from. It's humorous in several parts as Nikki describes the effect of the drugs and the "Mexicans with army helmets hiding in the trees constantly trying to break into his house by turning into gas and going under the cracks of the doors." and the puns that Motley pulled on tour (like lighting hotel doors on fire and then blaming other people when the hotel managers come to kick them out!).
The fact that the book is based off of real events and actual writings from Nikki makes the book extremely sad and surreal. There are even times when Nikki himself comments on entrees and is actually clueless on what he meant!
This book also inspired the album "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" by Sixx:A.M. (Nikki Sixx, James Michaels, and DJ Ashba). All the songs on the album are based off of feelings that were felt back then and while creating the book. There are also several sections of lyrics that were taken from the dairy entrees.
I recommend this book to anyone, regardless of your a Motley Crue fan or not! The book is loaded with diary entrees from Nikki in 1987, along with commentaries from Nikki, the band, and the people in his life as they read the entrees themselves. The pages are visual eye-catching with drawings, photos, and artwork.
The Heroin Diaries
I grew up listening to Motley Crue but wasn't the biggest fan of Nikki's. However this book is so true of the disease of addiction! I bought it and read it within a couple of days. Then to see my husband, who barely reads a magazine article, read it within a week! It is that gripping! I've already read it several times as well as friends and family.
